Spirituality was my top “signature” strength, and it is defined as the following: “Having coherent beliefs about the higher purpose and meaning of the universe; knowing where one fits within the larger scheme; having beliefs about the meaning of life that shape conduct and provide comfort.” (VIA, 2020)
I wasn’t surprised I got this as my signature strength because it fits well with the kind of life I lead. God is very important to me, without Him, my life wouldn’t be the same.
Spirituality connects to my life because it reminds me that I am a “trailblazer.” I’m an example that it’s possible for a person on the spectrum or with any other disability to learn and function in society. I truly believe God put everyone on Earth for a reason, and mine is to remind students and their parents that they are capable.
Some of the obstacles I’ve overcome were proving my “doubters” wrong. Teachers and specialists who said I wasn’t capable of learning. I showed them by graduating from high school and by currently attending college. Former coaches who never believed in me or treated me differently, not giving me an opportunity. I showed them by excelling at my sport. They were surprised when they saw what I accomplished. Having these challenges shaped the person I am today, they made me stronger.
The strength activity I did in class today was to talk about how I show my devotion and belief everyday. I am thankful for my life and am blessed no matter how good or bad it is. I told my group mate what I do everyday, pray. I pray for my family, and for things I’m having a hard time with.
The strength activity made me happy, because it reminded me of how God is a big part of my journey. I will always continue to engage spiritually because religion is essential to my life. It feels good to know that a Higher Power exists to help me with it. I know that religion has a tendency to be controversial but I’m not ashamed to say that I believe in God.

I really like your signature strength blog because you have one of the most positive outlooks on life and its truly inspiring. I remember you said today in class that you want to teach math to special education high school students, and I think that’s awesome that you already know what you want to do. Do you think that you would use meditation as a technique to focus the attention of your students, and do you think that meditating strengthens your spirituality?

I think that I could potentially use something in the form of this to help my students refocus to slow down/relax with their lessons.
